On Sunday 16th June, a small group from Earthsea travelled to London for the day to attend the charity football match, Soccer Aid, at Stamford Bridge. Setting off early and after stopping off for lunch (plus some typical M25 traffic) we started our day seeing the new Aladdin film at a London cinema before enjoying a nice meal at Pizza Express. Then came the somewhat arduous task of getting across to Stamford Bridge ready for kick off after some quick souvenir purchases.

The children thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the famous celebrities and ex-footballers play, going against the grain off the sell out crowd by choosing to support the World Team – largely down to the presence of Usain Bolt! With a fantastic atmosphere in a light hearted match, with the added bonus of the excitement of seeing popstar Rita Ora perform at half time, a wonderful time was had by all – especially seeing as the World Team came back from 2-0 down to win on penalties! There was a silent car on the way home as all but the driver slept, before the very late arrival at Earthsea of gone 1 o’clock in the morning. An unforgettable experience for all involved.
